Scan-RAM radio-TLC Scanner utilised in published research paper
Gallium-68 Labelled Iron Oxide Nanoparticles Coated with 2,3-Dicarboxypropane-1,1-disphosphonic Acid as a potential PET/MR Imaging Agent: A Proof of Concept Study.
An international team have recently published a paper using the LabLogic Scan-RAM radio-TLC Scanner. The paper which is published within the Hindawi Contrast Media and Molecular Imaging journal, investigates coated iron oxide nanoparticles labelled with the positron emitter Gallium-68, as potential PET and MR imaging agents.
Already iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles have proven to be favourable for a range of biomedical applications. The nanoparticles were successfully synthesised and stabilised which meant that they showed reduced toxicity in the normal cells compared to cancer cells. They also indicated good blood retention and efficient labelling with Gallium-68 to form very stable constructs.
The Scan-RAM was used as part of the study to determine the radiolabelling yield and purity. The group who uses the system in both research and quality control of radiopharmaceuticals said that they are “very satisfied with its performance” and that it is “easy to use and provides accurate analysis of samples”. From this it was deduced that iron oxide nanoparticles could serve as an important diagnostic tool in biomedical imaging.
