It's not just the winning

9 April 2015

The Hidex Sense came out on top at the recent ELRIG Research & Innovation 2015 meeting in Nottingham, winning the event's Technology Prize following a vote by delegates.

Visitors attending the event were evidently very impressed with the new instrument, which is designed and produced by Hidex and distributed in the UK and US by LabLogic. Rapidly becoming known as the ‘smartphone’ of the microplate reader world, due to its simplistic user interface, the Sense combines up to 11 technologies including liquid scintillation counting and direct luminescence providing a powerful and flexible platform to perform any kind of assay without limitations. The software is incredibly easy to use and designed so that you don’t need a manual! The touchscreen makes the user interface modern, flexible and simple.

The instrument is also amazingly compact (only 20 cm wide) and includes a unique optical filter wheel that accommodates up to 32 filters. This provides the user with the best performance and speed but eliminates the hassle of changing filters. For absorbance assays the instrument features a spectrometer allowing the entire spectrum from 220-1000 nm to be acquired in <0.3 s per well, making optimisation of absorbance assays easy and simple.

Anna Groom received the award on behalf of LabLogic and commented: "It was a great day all round and to receive the award at the end was very gratifying. The Sense is a superb instrument and has been well received wherever we have demonstrated it. This added recognition justifies our belief that the Sense will become a fixture in many labs across the UK and US, as other Hidex products have done in recent years."
