Sealed Sources

Sealed sources are useful for occasionally checking Beta-RAM stability. Mounted in a modified Beta-RAM cell holder, they are easily inserted and removed from the instrument. When in use, they maintain the normal photomultiplier tube spacing. Both ³H and¹⁴C sources are offered, but the ³H source is considered the more rigorous test of performance. However, with tritium having a half-life of 12.36 years, decay correction should be practiced to obtain long-term comparisons.
