The Byonoy Absorbance 96 is a novel solid-state microplate reader featuring 96 individual detection units for ultra-fast absorbance measurements. Despite being 7x smaller than the smallest comparable reader, it can read all 96 wells in as little as 3 seconds. A single USB connection supplies both power and software access.
Weighing only 900 g and measuring just 9 x 14.5 cm, the Absorbance 96 is the most compact microplate reader available, making it ideal for laboratories where space is limited.
96 individual detectors
Unlike conventional microplate readers that rely on moving parts or motorised scanning, the Absorbance 96 uses solid-state semiconductor technology with 96 light sources and 96 individual detectors. This enables simultaneous signal detection, resulting in exceptionally fast and precise photometric measurements across all wells.
Supporting a wide range of absorbance assays
The reader’s 400–1000 nm wavelength range supports a wide variety of endpoint and kinetic assays for both quantitative and qualitative analyses. Its ability to rapidly deliver precise optical density readings enables efficient quantification of multiple samples simultaneously, saving time and increasing throughput for large-scale studies and high-volume experiments.
It is ideal for a wide range of absorbance assays, including:
- ELISAs: PNPP, ABTS, OPD, TMB

Why is solid-state technology important?
By using solid-state semiconductor materials, the Absorbance 96 is faster, quieter, and uses less power than conventional microplate readers using moving mechanical parts or motors to scan the well plate. It’s use of solid-state technology also makes it more robust, less prone to errors, and much easier to maintain. It’s resistant to shock and vibration, which is particularly useful as a portable microplate reader which can be continuously handled in shared labs.
