LabLogic drives Cypriot diagnostic imaging with complete QC solution

The Bank of Cyprus Oncology Center has chosen LabLogic to equip its cyclotron managed by BIOKOSMOS

LabLogic has successfully installed and validated an advanced PET/QC package at the cyclotron facility of the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Center (BOCOC), marking a significant milestone in the expansion of nuclear medicine in Cyprus. It is the first hospital in Cyprus and Greece to receive quality accreditation from Caspe Healthcare Knowledge Systems (CHKS), Europe’s leading hospital accreditation organisation. The centre provides care for more than half of all oncology patients diagnosed in Cyprus.

Producing 18F radiopharmaceuticals to GMP standards

The cyclotron itself is operated by BIOKOSMOS, which is responsible for the production of 18F-labelled radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with the European Pharmacopoeia for PET imaging. LabLogic’s instrumentation and software will be used to support full release testing of these critical diagnostic products, ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and regulatory standards.

PET/CT imaging provision has expanded significantly across Cyprus in recent years, driven by increasing clinical demand for advanced oncology diagnostics. The introduction of the new PET/QC package will allow BOCOC to increase its diagnostic imaging capacity and support the growing use of molecular imaging in cancer care.

A full team of Service Engineers from LabLogic travelled to Cyprus for the installation.

Reliable, traceable, compliant QC

By selecting LabLogic, BOCOC and BIOKOSMOS are adopting industry-leading QC instrumentation and software, backed by comprehensive validation services and technical support. This ensures reliable, traceable, and compliant quality control of radiopharmaceutical production at every stage.

The installation and validation were completed over four days by LabLogic’s Service Operations Manager Chris Harrison, alongside Service Engineers Sam Marshall, Jodie Sellars, and Mike Manning.

“…the support throughout the process has been excellent.”

Reflecting on the implementation, Head of Production Dr Ioannis Ioannidis highlighted the collaborative nature of the project and the early development of processes within the facility, saying, “We are building everything from scratch; the methods, the reporting. It is a new experience for us. We have been kindly supported by Chris [Harrison, LabLogic’s Service Operations Manager]. The installation was very good, and the support throughout the process has been excellent as we establish our working arrangements.”

Site Chemist Michalis Petrou added, “The instruments and software are very user-friendly, which is extremely important when implementing new systems in a regulated production environment. We are focused on quality and compliance, and we are confident in the data.”

Both Dr Ioannidis and Mr Petrou were already familiar with LabLogic’s Laura software, having previously used the platform at other nuclear medicine facilities in Athens and Thessaloniki.

Regional regulations, global validation services

One of the greatest challenges in adopting new systems is validation, which is notoriously labour-intensive and time-consuming. LabLogic has successfully validated systems around the world in many different markets working to different regional regulations. With the necessary experience to provide IQOQ, LabLogic can expediate validation services for fast, compliant implementation.
